Independence is one of the basic principles of work of survey company. What does it consist in?

As it is known, surveyor is the third part (in deciding of questions of supplier and consignee) and an independent expert by inspection and assessment of some object (cargo, truck etc.). Many survey companies allege that they work independently. Nevertheless some of them are a part of a holding or, for example, a department of a forwarding company. So, how can they say about independence in such case?

Prior to conclusion of a contract with survey company it is necessary to ascertain that it is not affilated with other companies, in other words, it is juristically and practically independent.
